Dave Coulier

Stand-Up Comedian, Impressionist and Television Personality; Best Known for "Full House"

With the beginnings of a voice-over career in place, David Coulier began to focus on acting work and in 1984 was cast in Nickelodeon's "Out of Control," a faux late-night show for kids. The wacky program lasted less than a season, but the show became a cult favorite. In 1987, he was cast as Joey Gladstone, Bob Saget's crazy best-friend, on the series "Full House," the role for which he is best known.

He started his stand-up career two years after his high school graduation when he moved to Los Angeles. At 19, he became a regular performer at the Comedy Store and decided to make a voice-over demo. Writing, producing and voicing his own material, he sent the reel to Hanna Barbera Studios and was hired within the week.

After landing a part in Cheech and Chong's "Things Are Tough All Over," he began earning character roles on shows like "Newhart" and performing stand up on A&E's "Evening at the Improv." In 1984, Coulier was cast in Nickelodeon's "Out of Control."

His most popular role was in "Full House." As the sitcom enjoyed nationwide popularity, Coulier became a voice-over artist on the animated "The Real Ghost Busters." In 1990, he was also cast as the host of ABC's "America's Funniest People," a home-video show featuring silly and outrageous video clips, as well as Coulier's own sketches.

He has also lent his talents on projects such as "George and Leo," "Animal Kidding," "The Surreal Life," "Skating With Celebrities," "Robot Chicken" and "Bob & Doug."

Coulier is an avid hockey player and is a member of the Celebrity All-Stars team.

Dave Coulier on Fuller House, Muppet Babies, and living The Surreal Life

Welcome to Random Roles, wherein we talk to actors about the characters who defined their careers. The catch: They don’t know beforehand what roles we’ll ask them to talk about.

The actor: Dave Coulier was a well-established stand-up comedian and had already begun a solid career as a voice actor when he found his way into Full House, the ABC sitcom that would serve as a linchpin of the network’s T.G.I.F. lineup and run for eight seasons. Since leaving the life of Joey behind him, Coulier has continued to act and do stand-up while also popping up in reality series like The Surreal Life and Skating With Celebrities. When the oft-discussed Full House revival finally became a reality, Coulier happily signed on to reprise his role for Fuller House, the first season of which arrives on Netflix on February 26.
