Filmmaker and Actress known for "Tiny Furniture" & HBO's "Girls"

Lena Dunham is a filmmaker, writer, comedienne and actress. She was born to Laurie Simmons, photographer and designer, and painter Carroll Dunham in New York City. She studied creative writing at Oberlin College and graduated in 2008.

Dunham released feature film "Tiny Furniture" in 2010, writing, directing and starring in the film as Aura. It won Best Narrative Feature at the South by Southwest Music and Media Conference that year. The film also features "Girls" co-star Jemima Kirke, whom she met while attending Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn, and her real-life mother and sister. Her first feature film, "Creative Nonfiction," debuted at the SXSW festival in 2009.

Following her success from "Tiny Furniture," HBO greenlit Dunham's television series "Girls" in early 2012. Judd Apatow serves as the show's executive producer which is currently filming its fourth season. The series follows Dunham's Hannah and her group of friends as they navigate their early 20s in New York City. Dunham has been nominated for seven Emmys for her acting, writing and directing, and she won a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series Musical or Comedy in 2013. In 2015, it was reported that Dunham had been cast in a currently unknown guest role in an episode of the ABC drama series "Scandal."

2014 saw the release of her first book, "Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She's Learned," which will feature essays about sex and love.

Forbes magazine named Dunham one of the "30 Under 30" and a power woman to watch for 2013. The magazine had previously featured her as a name you need to know for 2011. Time magazine included her in its 2013 Time 100 list as one of the most influential icons.

A supporter of the LGBT community, Dunham has stated that she will not get married until same-sex marriage is legalized.
