Aaron Huey is a photojournalist and director who has shot over 30 features for the National Geographic magazines on a diverse array of subjects from adventure, to war, to wildlife. From the Sherpas of Everest, to the Opium War in Afghanistan, to wolves in Alaska he has covered it all. Huey is a prolific public speaker and has lectured widely from the TED stage to touring National Geographic Live shows around the country. He is also widely known for his 3,349-mile solo walk across America with his dog Cosmo in 2002. The journey lasted 154 days and there was no media coverage and they walked every step.
Huey was been awarded a Webby for Best VR experience, the Galen Rowell Award, the Lowell Thomas Travel Photographer of the Year, dozens of awards in the World Press Photo, POYi, and the National Magazine Awards. But, maybe most importantly, he was named 3rd Coolest Dad in America for 2018/2019. He is a Stanford Media Designer, and Founder and Chief Creative of Amplifier.org. As the first Global Ambassador for Stanford's d.School, and as a Media Experiments Fellow there, Huey focused on experiments using the human centered design process in both the analog and digital world. His combination of art and storytelling have resulted in the creation of the Pine Ridge Community Storytelling Project, The Sherpa Photo Fund, and the global art phenomenon called "We The People" with artist Shepard Fairey.
Huey lives in Seattle, Washington and is currently building US History and Cultural Heritage lessons in virtual reality and augmented reality that will become part of K-12 curriculum across the US in 2020.
