Achenyo Idachaba
Founder & CEO of MitiMeth, a Materials and Artisan Enterprise based in Nigeria
Achenyo Idachaba-Obaro, a Computer Scientist by background, is the Founder of MitiMeth, an award-winning Materials and Artisan Social Enterprise in Nigeria changing interiors narrative and building livelihoods through the transformation of invasive aquatic weeds and agricultural residues. Her passion lies in designing and producing handwoven interior décor and fashion accessories from these renewable resources. MitiMeth’s unique handmade products and fashion accessories have been featured in past showcases and Talks at Sharjah Architecture Triennale, Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, Abu Dhabi Art, Vienna Design Week, Lagos Fashion Week, Eko Design, Design Week Lagos, Design Intersect at SOTO Gallery, ADORNO Design to name a few. MitiMeth has also been featured in a School of Business case study published by IVEY Publishing titled “MitiMeth: A Nigerian Social Enterprise goes Global” used by several business schools.
Idachaba-Obaro is listed amongst the 2023 Leading Ladies Africa’s 100 Most Inspiring Women in Nigeria. She is a 2024 Vital Voices Global Ambassador Program Fellow, a 2023 MIT Legatum Foundry Fellow, a 2017 YNaija and Leading Ladies Africa’s 100 Most Inspiring Women in Nigeria, a 2017 Vital Voices VV Lead Fellow, a 2015 Tony Elumelu Foundation Fellow, a 2014 Cartier Women’s Initiative Fellow and a 2013 YouWIN Awardee. She has been featured on BBC, Deutsche Welle TV, CNN’s African Start-Up and Google Africa’s International Women’s Day Campaign. Her TED talk has over 1.9 million views. She has received several awards and recognitions affirming her accomplishments.
Prior to founding MitiMeth, Idachaba-Obaro worked for ExxonMobil where she held a variety of Regional and Global positions. She has a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Economics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, an M.S. in Applied Computer Science from Illinois State University and an M.B.A from Cornell University. She has held the position of Associate Lecturer at the University of Ibadan, Centre for General Studies since 2021 and was Course Director for LEAP Africa’s Social Innovators Programme Workshop from 2021 - 2023. She is currently on the Steering Committee of the UK-Nigeria Circular Fashion Global Innovation Network and also sits on the Board of several organizations.
