Adam Ondra

Professional Rock Climber

Adam Ondra is a Czech professional rock climber, specializing in lead climbing and bouldering. Rock & Ice magazine described Ondra in 2013 as a prodigy and the leading climber of his generation.

Born in 1993 in Brno, Czech Republic to climber parents, Ondra was a pre-teen wunderkind who had climbed 5.14d/9a by age 13. After traveling the world dispatching many of the hardest established climbs, Ondra has grown to become a cutting-edge first ascensionist, envisioning and executing the hardest climbs on the planet, often in only a handful of tries.

Ondra has made climbing history numerous times, introducing the world to both the 5.15c/9b+ and 5.15d/9c grades with his ascents of Change in 2012 and Silence in 2017 (both in Flatanger, Norway) and becoming the first person to flash 5.15a/9a+ via Super Crackinette in Saint Leger, France. His competition resume is equally as impressive—Ondra has won several World Cup titles and is the only male climber to have won the World Championships in both lead and bouldering in the same year during the 2014 edition. He has also become lead World Champion in lead three times and matched the record of French climbing rockstar Francois Legrand. Champion in life as well as in sport, with a dozen 9a + and a repetition of 9b behind him, at the age of 18 Adam became ambassador of the Climb for Life project, becoming a bone marrow donor.

Adam Ondra’s Race to the Top
The world’s best climber is a wiry 27-year-old with a curly mop of hair and a noticeably long neck. His name is Adam Ondra, and on a misty fall day in an industrial valley on the outskirts of his hometown, he was inside the massive metal silo of a former rock quarry that had been converted into a climbing gym.
