Ahmed Bautista

Fashion Designer & Founder of Mercadorama; Known for Starting the "Mexico is the Shit" Movement

Ahmed Bautista is the Director of Special Projects at Kichink, Mexico's leading e-commerce solution for businesses.

Bautista is also the Founder of Mercadorama, which he started in 2009, and through this brand he created the "Mexico is the Shit" movement. On a plane ride home from Los Angeles, Ahmed thought of the phrase, digitized it, and began thinking of ways to make a statement.

Bautista's answer came when he decided to use the phrase to repurpose several motorcycle-cut jackets and provide them as the uniform for the graphic artists at the Red Bermelo art gallery.

While they only had time to produce 16 jackets for the event, with a guest list of about 300, the exposure was immediate, leading the phrase to go viral for the first time.
