Houston native Alaina Castillo first found fame with her online renditions of popular songs before making the jump into the pop world with the release of her 2019 debut EP, the bilingual Antisocial Butterfly. She further honed her atmospheric, alternative pop sound with her 2021 EP Parallel Universe, Pt. 1.

In 2019, Castillo released her debut single, "i don't think I love you anymore." A handful of singles followed and saw Castillo drawing on her Latinx heritage on tracks like "no importa" and "mentiras." These singles appeared on her debut EP, 2019's Antisocial Butterfly. In 2020, she released another EP, the voicenotes, with her vocal delivery and alternative take on pop eliciting comparisons to contemporaries Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande. Later that year, she issued the singles "Tonight," "Párate," and "Wishlist."

In 2021, the time had come for the release of her first full-length. Splitting it into two parts, Castillo teased the effort with Parallel Universe, Pt. 1, a seven-song EP from her debut LP.
