Alan Gura is a constitutional lawyer focusing on civil rights cases and adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University. Gura successfully argued two Supreme Court cases: District of Columbia v. Heller, confirming that the Second Amendment secures individual rights, and McDonald v. City of Chicago, confirming that the Fourteenth Amendment requires states and local governments to respect the right to arms. Prior to founding Gura and Possessky, he was counsel to the Senate Judiciary Committee and a California deputy attorney general. National Law Journal named him among the 100 Most Influential Lawyers in America and Legal Times called him one of Washington, DC’s Top 40 Under 40 attorneys in 2009.
