Alejandro Alvarez

Senior Director in Global Brand Engagement at Banana Republic

Born in Mexico City, Alejandro should have been an architect but became an Industrial and Systems Engineer (Monterrey Tech, the Mexican MIT) after horror stories of unemployment rates among architects. After three years at BCG working in industries like Cement and Concrete, he quit to attend “consulting rehab” at UC Berkeley’s MBA program. Upon graduation, he joined Levi Strauss as a brand strategist and then moved on to marketing where The Gay Mexican managed The Very Straight American NASCAR program. As if that wasn’t challenging enough, he decided to move from San Francisco to Ohio. He launched social media for Victoria’s Secret, among other things, and would like to think he was somewhat responsible for Facebook’s decision to prohibit using the ‘like’ button as a voting mechanism. He joined Banana Republic in 2011 and has been involved in a variety of global projects in the social media, events, promotions and partnerships space. He developed programs with GILT, Virgin America, Universal Studios, Paperless Post, FIAT and Team Oracle USA to name a few.
