Alex Kipman, general manager of incubation for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft

Alex Kipman, general manager of incubation for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, has led three major innovations for the company, the latest of which is the Kinect for Xbox 360 platform, an entertainment experience that Kipman says, "makes technology disappear."

Kipman’s expertise in machine learning and software design has played an integral role in the development and vision for Kinect on Xbox 360. Recognizing that the greatest barrier between consumers and gaming is the controller, Kipman and his team created much of the software enabling Kinect to understand the behavior of the people and translate it into on screen action.

In his role, Kipman scouts new technologies for the video game and entertainment system. He is responsible for the design and development of disruptive Microsoft products that support his division's strategy and vision – Kinect and Xbox being two notable examples. The passion and innovation that Kipman pours into his projects at Microsoft is evident through his 60 unique patents since joining the company in 2001.

Born in Brazil, Kipman came to Microsoft fresh out of the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York State, with a degree in software engineering.
