Dr. Alfonso Montero founded Renaissance Leadership Alliance to share his unique principles with others, to serve as a guide offering tools that empower and inspire individuals to tap into their own unlimited potential.

Montero has presented workshops for thousands of leaders from across the world – from student, business, local government, and community leaders to NGO founders and executives – looking to thrive as agents of social change; in turn, strengthening trust, collaboration, cooperation, and innovation across different cultures, while creating the changes they desire personally, professionally, physically, and spiritually; therefore, transforming society as a whole. After earning a master’s degree in global affairs with a focus in international business, economics and development and a doctorate in educational leadership, his journey toward becoming a leader was only the beginning. To truly make a positive difference in the communities around the world, Alfonso had to move past the exterior successes that comforted his ego, such as degrees, experiences and titles. Almost counterintuitively, he had to change his thinking from “I am a leader” to “I am becoming a leader”—because it is a never-ending process, always with another step to take, another insight to gain, another improvement to make on a path from “I” to “us.”

From living, working, traveling, volunteering, and/or studying in over 85 countries he gained knowledges and new perspectives with each stop from dialoguing with worldwide leaders ranging from corporate executives and government officials to scholars, spiritual guides, and indigenous elders. Both an educator and a lifelong learner, now he is sharing the wisdom gained on his journey toward what he calls “Renaissance Leadership”—including his own failures, triumphs, and what he has learned from them.

When he is not teaching or speaking, in his spare time he is reading, practicing Sato Bu Kan Samurai Martial Arts or on hiking adventures to reconnect with nature. And as his own journey continues, he remains a learner as much as an educator—absorbing perspectives and wisdom from each experience and every individual who crosses his path.
