Alina Donahue is a Human Trafficking Survivor. In 2012, Donahue fell victim to the dark world we know as Human Trafficking. For months, she lived in the shadows of her trafficker. With each day that passed, she prayed that her nightmare would come to an end. After eight horrific months, Donahue was finally able to escape the grasp of her trafficker during an encounter with law enforcement.
In 2018, she became the first person in the state of Florida to have her criminal charges expunged after being classified a victim of Human Trafficking. After making history, Donahue felt she was destined to make a positive difference in the lives of other survivors.
In 2020, Donahue co-created The Shelly Stayer Shelter’s 18-month Human Trafficking Residential Program. A model program for organizations nationwide that leads the fight in providing aftercare services to survivors. Within this program, advocates can help female, adult survivors of sexual human trafficking by offering them intensive therapeutic services needed to heal and regain their self-independence. She is passionate about helping women find their inner strength and confidence to conquer any challenge they may face. Donahue has been invited to speak and share her story of overcoming sexual trafficking around the country. Her story has been referred to as simultaneously enlightening, stunning, and horrific.
Donahue grew up in a conservative, Catholic home in Naples, Florida. Her parents were Cuban immigrants who migrated to the United States in the mid-1980s fleeing the Castro regime. She was raised in a loving home with her two siblings. She now resides in Southwest Florida with her loving husband and two daughters. Donahue is a strong advocate for victims and survivors of human trafficking. It is her vision to inspire and create awareness for all because anyone can fall victim to this heinous crime.
