Alison Bateman-House      

Ethicist, Public Health Professional & Medical Historian; Research Assistant Professor, Division of Medical Ethics at NYU Grossman School of Medicine

Alison Bateman-House, MPH, PhD is an ethicist, public health professional, and medical historian. An Assistant Professor, Department of Population Health, in the NYU Grossman School of Medicine Division of Medical Ethics, she also co-chairs the Working Group on Compassionate Use and Preapproval Access, which studies ethical issues concerning access to investigational medical products. Additionally, Bateman-House co-chairs the Pediatric Gene Therapy Medical Ethics working group.

Bateman-House advises biopharmaceutical companies, patient advocacy organizations, and governmental and non-governmental entities, and serves on numerous data safety monitoring boards overseeing clinical trials.

Bateman-House is primary investigator for the NYU/Janssen Pharmaceutical Compassionate Use Advisory Committees. In 2021, she received the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health Outstanding Recent Alumni Award. She has published and spoken extensively on access to investigational medical products, equity in clinical trials, individualized therapeutics, the history and ethics of using humans as research subjects, and public health ethics.​
