Alison Smith

Neuroscientist & Mental Health Tech Pioneer

Dr. Alison Smith is the co-founder and Chief Scientist of Roga, a pioneering health tech startup focused on developing a breakthrough wearable device for anxiety treatment using electrical brain stimulation. A neuroscientist with a PhD from the University of Waterloo, where she also served as an adjunct professor, Dr. Smith has dedicated her career to studying neurophysiology and the development of brain stimulation technologies that enhance mental health.

Her journey into mental healthcare innovation was deeply personal. After suffering from a chronic illness that led to severe anxiety, Dr. Smith recognized the need for more effective treatments beyond traditional medication and therapy. This experience fueled her passion to create solutions that empower people to regain control over their lives and led to the creation of Roga, voted one of the World Changing Ideas by Fast Company.

Prior to Roga, Dr. Smith served as lead scientist for neuroscience research company Vielight, investigating the neural effects of devices on high performance athletics, brain training, and meditation. She has 15 years of experience writing scientific journal articles and white papers.
