Alister Martin        

Emergency Medical Specialist; Assistant Professor, Harvard Medical School - Faculty Center for Social Justice and Health Equity; Founder, Get Waivered & Vot-ER

Alister Martin is CEO of A Healthier Democracy, a nonprofit health care organizing incubator, which leverages health care workers and health care settings as a place to build programs and movements that serve the needs of vulnerable patients. He also sits on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Panel on Outreach and Education.

A practicing ER physician and former Chief Resident at Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Martin is dually appointed as an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and as Research Faculty at the Harvard Kennedy School. He previously served as an advisor in the Office of the Vice President under Kamala Harris as an appointed White House Fellow.

Dr. Martin leverages his background in politics, healthcare policy, and the field of behavioral economics to use the emergency room as a place to build programs that serve the needs of vulnerable patients. He is the founder of Get Waivered, a campaign aimed at transforming ERs into the front door for recovery treatment for those suffering from opioid addiction. This work serves as a national model at the NIH with several state partnership.

He is also the founder of Vot-ER, a nonpartisan voter registration organization working to integrate civic engagement into healthcare.
