Allie Long

Midfielder for the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team & Reign FC; FIFA Women's World Cup Champion & Futsal Player

Alexandra "Allie" Long is an American soccer midfielder currently playing for the Reign FC of the National Women's Soccer League and the United States women's national soccer team. She made her debut for the national team on May 8, 2014, in a friendly against Canada. She has since made 45 total appearances for the team.

Professionally, Long has played for the Washington Freedom and Sky Blue FC of Women's Professional Soccer, Paris Saint-Germain of Division 1 Féminine in France, and the New York Fury of Women's Premier Soccer League Elite. She played for Portland Thorns FC of the National Women's Soccer League from 2013 to 2017. For years, Allie Long was a star midfielder for the Portland Thorns but remained just outside of the National Team picture. That changed in the 2016 Olympics, where Long started three out of four games for the U.S. and was Player of the Match against France.

Following the Olympics, Long remained on the bubble of the senior team roster while coach Jill Ellis experimented with new talent. In November 2018, Long was included in the roster for a set of friendlies in Europe in November 2018, making an appearance off the bench in the team's match against Scotland. Long made appearances off the bench in both April 2019 friendlies for the USWNT against Australia and Belgium.

In May 2019, Long was named to the final roster for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, marking her first senior World Cup appearance. The U.S. team won the FIFA Women's World Cup Title.

In high school gyms across Queens, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan, immigrant men from all over the world play for money in cutthroat futsal leagues, games often stretching until three in the morning. This is Long’s favorite place to spend her off seasons. “It’s hands down the best training I get,” says Long. The Latino men she plays with are her biggest supporters and the entire community embraces “La Gringa.” They follow her NWSL games—first for the Thorns and now for Reign FC.

Long played college soccer for Penn State for the 2005 and 2006 seasons before transferring to the University of North Carolina to play for the Tar Heels. Long was a member of the Tar Heels team that won the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament in 2008.
