Allister Heath

Deputy Editor of The Telegraph, Journalist, Author and Commentator on the UK & European Economies

Allister Heath is a British business journalist, author and commentator. He is currently The Telegraph’s Deputy Editor, where he was hired to drive the newspaper’s renewed focus on its digital strategy. Heath is responsible for all business content across digital and print products.

Formerly, Heath was the editor of City A.M., the daily business newspaper distributed in and around London from 2008 to 2014. Under Heath’s editorship, City A.M. grew to an audited print circulation of 128,781 copies per day, making it one of the most influential voices in London’s business community. Prior to taking over at City A.M., he was editor of The Business magazine, which closed after his departure in 2008. He also served as contributing editor of The Spectator.

Heath’s columns in City A.M. and The Daily Telegraph are widely read for their penetrating insights and provocative commentary on economic and financial affairs, and he has gathered an increasingly large following. Heath also appears regularly on radio and television programs such as Newsnight, Daily Politics and the Today Programme.

Heath was awarded the 2011 Free Enterprise Award by the Institute of Economic Affairs, speaking at the IEA's 60th Anniversary Gala in 2016. He was also voted the 2012 SIMA Financial Journalist of the Year in the City of London Wealth Management Awards. During 2012, he chaired the Tax Paxpayer’s Alliance 2020 Tax Commission, which recommended radical changes to the UK tax system. In October 2017, Heath was placed at Number 87 on 'The Top 100 Most Influential People On The Right' by commentator Iain Dale.

He is the author of A Flat Tax: Towards a British Model, which was published in 2006. Heath studied economics at the London School of Economics and later received an MPhil in economics at Hertford College in Oxford.
