Allysa Seely

Professional Paratriathlete & World Champion

Allysa Seely is an accomplished para triathlete and Paralympic gold medalist who has overcome significant challenges in her life, becoming a prominent figure in the world of adaptive sports. Known for her competitiveness, determination and breaking barriers mindset, she made history by winning a gold medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympic Games and then repeated her gold medal performance at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, making her a two-time Paralympic Champion. Seely is the only female triathlete to win two gold medals at the Paralympics or the Olympics.

Seely was a nationally ranked able-bodied triathlete at Arizona State University (ASU) before she underwent an above-the-knee amputation due to complications related to a rare vascular condition. Instead of allowing this setback to define her, Seely embraced a positive and determined mindset, channeling her energy into para triathlon.

Seely made her mark on the international stage when para triathlon was introduced to the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Competing in the PT2 classification, she secured the gold medal, showcasing her exceptional skills and resilience. In 2020, she successfully defended her title at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Her triumphs not only established her as a Paralympic champion but also inspired many around the world.

In addition to her Paralympic success, Seely has excelled in various international competitions and has consistently been a podium finisher. Her dedication to her sport and advocacy for para-athletes have contributed to raising awareness about adaptive sports and challenging perceptions about disability.

Seely was featured in ESPN The Magazine’s 2016 Body Issue and in 2019, won an ESPY award for the Best Female Athlete with a Disability.

She has a master's degree in interdisciplinary studies, psychology, and exercise and wellness from ASU. She also has a bachelor of science in biology, genetics, and cell and developmental biology from the same university.
