Her talent did not go unnoticed; in 2014, she joined the writing team of "Late Night with Seth Meyers," making history as the first Black woman to write for a late-night network talk show in the United States. Further expanding her reach, Ruffin co-authored a book with her sister, Lacey Lamar, titled "You'll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories about Racism," which earned a spot on the New York Times Best Seller list in January 2021. Their follow-up "The World Record Book of Racist Stories" was published in 2023. Ruffin also co-founded the production company Straight to Cards with writing partner Jenny Hagel.

Ruffin's recent ventures include co-writing the Broadway-bound musical adaptation of "Some Like It Hot" with Matthew Lopez and voicing the character Purple in the M&M's advertising campaign.
