Amel Boubekeur  

Visiting fellow at the Brookings Doha Center

Amel Boubekeur is a visiting fellow at the Brookings Doha Center. Her research focuses on Maghreb country politics, democratization in the Arab world, Euro-Arab/US–Arab relations, and Islam in Europe. She has been a resident scholar at the Carnegie Middle East Center in Beirut and the head of the Islam and Europe Programme at the Centre for European Policy Studies in Brussels.

Boubekeur is the author of "Whatever Happened to the Islamists?," "European Islam: The Challenges for Society and Public Policy," and "Le voile de la mariée," as well as co-editor with Oliver Roy of the newly released Whatever Happened to the Islamists? Salafis, Heavy Metal Muslims, and the Lure of Consumerist Islam. She is a research fellow at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales - École Normale Supérieure and at the University of Leiden. She is also an associate research fellow at the Centre Jacques Berque in Rabat. Boubekeur has been a visiting scholar at the University of Chicago and is a regular consultant for various United Nations agencies, the European Commission, and the Open Society Institute.
