Actress, Best Known for Her Roles in "Angel," "Alias" & "Person of Interest"

A Texas native and graduate of Southern Methodist University with a BFA in Acting, Amy Acker first gained recognition for her starring role as Winifred “Fred” Burkle on the television series Angel. She won a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series and received nominations from the Cinescape and Golden Satellite Awards for the role. Her most recent television role has been playing the hacker/assassin turned Machine, Root, on Person of Interest. Acker’s other series regular roles include Alias, Dollhouse, and Happy Town.” Guest-starring roles include Suits, Agents of Shield, How I Met Your Mother, The Good Wife, Grimm, Once Upon a Time, No Ordinary Family, Private Practice, Supernatural, and Law & Order: Criminal Intent.

Acker starred as Beatrice in the independent feature film Much Ado About Nothing, directed by Joss Whedon. The film premiered at the 2012 Toronto International Film Festival and was screened at the 2013 SXSW Film Festival, Seattle Film Festival, USA Film Festival, Independent Film Festival Boston and the San Francisco International Film Festival. Additionally, Acker appeared in the horror thriller Cabin in the Woods, which was selected as the opening night feature at the 2012 SXSW Film Festival, the independent drama Sironia, which won the Audience Award at the 2011 Austin Film Festival, When Jack Went Glamping, Let’s Kill Ward’s Wife, 21 and a Wake-Up, The Novice, Groom Lake, The Accident, and Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me if You Can. On the stage, she appeared in the regional productions of Much Ado About Nothing, Master Builder, Therese Raquin, and Beast on the Moon, among others.

Acker studied dance for 13 years before she turned her attention to acting. Currently, she resides between New York and Los Angeles with her husband, actor James Carpinello, and their two children.
