Jermichael Finley

Jermichael Finley entered 2010 with his star on the rise. He finished 2009 on a high note, taking over as the Packers starting tight end and emerging as a legitimate red zone threat for another rising star, quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Finley’s 2010 season was cut short when a knee injury ended his season. His team; however, went on to win the Super Bowl while Finley sat on the sidelines.

Now Finley is back to almost 100% and entering a contract year, but many questions still remain unanswered. If Finley can prove that he has fully recovered, he could demand a significant contract. The Packers may not be willing to shell out that kind of money for a talented player with an injury concern.

On top of that, the Packers invested a fifth-round draft pick on a player whose skill set resembles Finley in tight end D.J. Williams from Arkansas. Williams has a similar skill set and build to Finley. If Williams progresses during his rookie season, that could be enough to convince management that Finley wouldn’t be worth what he’d cost the Packers to keep him.
