Amy Poehler

Comedian, Writer, Producer & Actress Best-Known For "SNL," "Parks and Recreation" & "Inside Out"; Co-Founder of Amy Poehler's Smart Girls

Amy Poehler is an actress and comedian who began her career as a founding member of the improvisational-comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade. This troupe offered improv classes and performed shows at small venues in New York City, which gave Poehler the opportunity to refine her comedic skills. Her work with the Brigade led to appearances on popular shows such as "Late Night with Conan O'Brien" and eventually to her joining the cast of the NBC sketch comedy show "Saturday Night Live" in 2001. Her time on SNL was marked by memorable recurring characters and co-anchoring the news parody segment, "Weekend Update," with Tina Fey from 2004 to 2008.

Post-SNL, Poehler starred as the unforgettable Leslie Knope in the sitcom "Parks and Recreation," a role that resulted in a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Musical or Comedy Series in 2014 and a Critics' Choice Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series in 2012. Not stopping at acting, Poehler also served as an executive producer on several television series, including "Welcome to Sweden," "Broad City," and "Russian Dolls." This experience, alongside her frequent collaborations with Tina Fey, made her a perfect fit for hosting the Golden Globe Awards, a role she filled four times.

Expanding her repertoire further, Poehler lent her voice to characters in animated films such as "Shrek the Third," "Horton Hears a Who!," "Inside Out," and "Inside Out 2." Poehler ventured into directing with "Wine Country" in 2019. In 2015, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a testament to her impact on the entertainment industry. Outside of acting and producing, Poehler is a memoir author, a champion of social and political causes, and a co-founder of Smart Girls at the Party, an online community aimed at empowering girls. Her wide-ranging accomplishments and her in-depth industry experience make her a respected figure in the world of comedy and beyond.
