Amy Poehler

Comedian, Writer, Producer, Actress Best-Known For "Parks and Recreation", Co-Founder of Amy Poehler's Smart Girls

Amy Poehler, the acclaimed comedian and actress, embarked on her journey to stardom after graduating college. Born on September 16, 1971, in the Boston suburb of Newton, Massachusetts, Amy spent her formative years in Burlington. She was raised by her parents, Eileen and William Poehler, both school teachers, instilling in her a love for learning and creativity from an early age.

During her time at Boston College, Poehler's comedic talent flourished as she became a member of the college's improvisational comedy troupe, "My Mother's Fleabag". After earning her degree, she set her sights on Chicago, where the vibrant comedy scene beckoned. In 1993, Poehler made the bold move to the Windy City to pursue her dream of a professional comedy career.

Chicago proved to be the perfect training ground for Poehler as she honed her skills at esteemed comedy theaters like ImprovOlympics and Second City, renowned for nurturing talents like Stephen Colbert, Chris Farley, and Tina Fey. It was here that she crossed paths with Fey, a fateful meeting that would shape the course of both their careers.

Poehler's big break arrived when she was cast as a featured performer on the iconic sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live (SNL). Her wit, charm, and comedic timing quickly endeared her to audiences, establishing her as a comedic force to be reckoned with. Her standout performances on SNL paved the way for her to become a household name.

However, it was her role as the indomitable Leslie Knope in the beloved sitcom Parks and Recreation that truly solidified Poehler's status as a comedy powerhouse. From 2009 to 2015, she charmed viewers with her portrayal of the passionate and quirky public servant, earning widespread acclaim and adoration.
