Andra Day is a singer, songwriter, and actress from San Diego, California. She burst onto the scene in 2015 with her song “Rise Up,” a rousing power ballad that earned a Grammy nomination and later became an anthem for Black Lives Matter protests. Her debut album, "Cheers to the Fall," was nominated for Best R&B Album at the 2016 Grammy Awards, and "Rise Up" was nominated for Best R&B Performance. Day also appeared alongside Stevie Wonder, who is partially credited for her discovery, in an ad for Apple TV in late 2015.

In 2021, in her first leading role in a feature film, Day portrayed Billie Holiday, one of the most legendary singers of all time, in director Lee Daniels’ "The United States vs. Billie Holiday." The performance earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama and an Oscar nomination while the soundtrack took home a Grammy for Best Original Song. She has forthcoming appearances in Daniels' supernatural horror film "The Deliverance" and Titus Kaphar's independent film "Exhibiting Forgiveness."

At Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024, Day performed "“Lift Every Voice and Sing," often referred to as the Black national anthem. The same year, TIME honored her as one of their 12 Women of the Year.
