Andrew Cedar is Senior Director for Global Engagement on the National Security Staff at the White House, where he is responsible for coordinating U.S. policy and programs related to public diplomacy, international broadcasting, civil society engagement, entrepreneurship, and the intersection of technology and foreign policy. Before working at the White House, Andrew was Senior Advisor in the Office of the Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs. At the State Department, Andrew developed U.S. strategy for communicating with and engaging foreign publics globally on issues including education, entrepreneurship, and media freedom. He also helped to lead the development of policy on global youth issues, the rise of social media, and U.S. public engagement in the wake of the Arab Spring. Prior to joining the Obama Administration, he was a consultant at McKinsey & Company based in Washington. While at McKinsey, Andrew advised clients in the private and public sectors in the U.S., Middle East, and Latin America on issues of strategy and organization. He has worked previously at the Brookings Institution's Center for Middle East Policy and on President Barack Obama's Transition Team. He has a B.A. from Yale University and an M.Phil from University of Cambridge in the UK, and was named a Young Global Shaper by the World Economic Forum. He has lectured at Georgetown, George Washington, and Syracuse Universities.
