In 1986 graduated from Donetsk Polytechnic Institute, PhD in Technical Sciences. Worked as underground mine worker, Deputy Head of the Mine Transport Department. In 1986–1991 – PhD student, research fellow at Donetsk Polytechnic Institute. In 1991 -1994 – Engineering Director of the “Shelf” group, President of the “Promcomservice” JSC, Director General of the JSC “Ukrpidshypnyk”. Since 1994 – Deputy Chairman of Donetsk Regional Council, then – Deputy Chairman of Donetsk Regional Administration, First Deputy Mayor of Donetsk City, Deputy Chairman of Donetsk Regional Administration. 1996 – 2002 – Member of Donetsk City Council. April 2002 – May 2006 - Member of Parliament of Ukraine of several convocations. In 2003 – 2004 and in 2006 – Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine. Since March 2000 – Head of Donetsk Box Federation.
