Flipswap acquires mobile phones in order to resell (as a form of reuse) or recycle them in an environmentally friendly manner through various free and eco-friendly services.

They do this to make sure that a potentially long lifespan is achieved for electronics that are still usable and useful. Flipswap has created a unique method of collecting mobile phones by partnering with a wide array of retailers, e-tailers, device manufacturers and websites.

In 2007 alone, Flipswap put enough phones back into use to keep the equivalent of 50 tons of solid waste, most of it toxic, out of landfills.

In 2008 Flipswap raised $14M in series B funding from RRE Ventures and NGEN Partners

Their revenue went from 6 million to 18.8 million in 2010.

In February 2011, AT&T began offering Flipswap services through all its corporate retail locations
