(Taylor & Francis). More recently he published a three-part series “A Heat Dome Hits Virginia,” which portrays the national and global impacts of a prolonged extreme heat event in the summer of 2025 that causes major data center outages in and around Ashburn VA, also known as Data Center Alley (Security Management, 2022).

Past is No Longer Prologue
Historical weather data can no longer guide how we build modern infrastructure that supports energy, water, transportation and communications. When every year brings unprecedented fires, freeze, floods, heatwaves and other formerly rare disruptive and destructive events, governments, contractors and regulators must find new ways to prepare and protect communities. This talk describes some candidate strategies that have proven helpful.
Leveraging the Future to Protect the Mission, or Just Live Your Life
Whether you’re a senior decision-maker in government or industry, or the man or woman on the street, we all need to better understand what climate model projections are telling us. And whether it’s national security, economic security, public health, environmental equity, or deciding where you’d like to raise a family, understanding how to makes sense of climate model data is now a required competency for everyone. This 101-level talk demystifies climate models and points out some helpful resources.
OT Security Cyber-Climate Nexus
A somewhat more technical talk tailored to cybersecurity and other infrastructure protection professionals. Illuminates and extends the parallels between strategies for cyber defense against top tier adversaries and the types of approaches necessary to keep our world running in the face of extreme weather.
