Andy Holder

Ironman Triathlete with Type 1 Diabetes

At the age of 36, Andy Holder (AKA "Iron Andy") was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. This came with no family history and no warning. Being a husband and father of two young boys he was determined to overcome this disease and was not going to let it limit his life in any way. Holder decided to do something extraordinary in an effort to motivate and inspire other people struggling with diabetes, or any chronic disease. Despite never having done a triathlon before and not knowing how to swim, he decided to accomplish what most consider to be the ultimate test of mental and physical endurance: the Ironman triathlon.

With a positive attitude, hard work, and a great deal of support, Andy Holder has completed numerous Ironman and half Ironman triathlons, as well as a number of marathons. As a national spokesperson, he travels the country telling his story and inspiring others to live a health and active life.
