Recognized globally for his skills, Macdonald has been crowned World Champion in the World Cup Skateboard Series for eight consecutive years and has competed in every X Games since its inception. He holds the record for the most X Games medals in vert skateboarding, with a remarkable total of 22 medals—more than any other skater.

Further extending his influence in the field, Macdonald was selected as the "Best Overall Skater" in the 1998 Readers Poll of Transworld Skateboarding magazine and has been featured in the video game MTV Sports: Skateboarding featuring Andy MacDonald for Dreamcast, PlayStation, and PC.
