Helen Lamont    

Director of Disability and Aging Policy Division, Office of the Secretary for Planning and Evaluation, US Department of Health & Human Services

Helen Lamont serves as the Director of the Division of Disability and Aging Policy. In her role, she manages a team of professional staff engaged in policy analysis, research, and evaluation relating to disability, aging, and long-term care issues and programs. Lamont is responsible for leading the implementation of the National Alzheimer's Project Act. She organizes the Advisory Council on Alzheimer's Research, Care, and Services and collaborates with an interagency group to compose the annual National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease.

Lamont also oversees a range of research projects on dementia, among them an initiative to examine the use of inpatient psychiatric facilities by people diagnosed with dementia. In addition, she is involved in work that addresses family and informal caregiving, elder justice, and adult maltreatment. Lamont has worked across Department divisions on disability data issues, and is currently investigating the feasibility of utilizing an internet panel study to gather data on disability.

She joined ASPE in 2007. Lamont holds a PhD in Aging Studies from the University of South Florida, and a BS in Human Development from Duke University.
