Anton Edmunds      

Emerging markets consultant with an especially deep understanding of the Caribbean. Key areas of focus include competitiveness, tourism, Diaspora issues, trade & security and political economy.

Anton is an emerging markets (Caribbean Basin) expert and Managing Director of The Edmunds Group, a Washington DC firm that provides corporate strategy, tourism, transportation, energy, telecommunications, financial services and homeland security advisory services to governments and private sector entities. He is also a Senior Associate at the Center for Strategic & International Studies (CSIS), a bipartisan organization providing strategic insight and policy solutions to help decision makers. His writings have been been featured extensively in regional and international papers and he is a sought after speaker on competitiveness, supply chain security and FDI. He is also the Chair of the U.S. Department of State's Foreign Service Institute's Caribbean Area Studies program.

Private sector interests he has represented include Angostura, SuperClubs, Bank of America, ExxonMobil, Chevron, FedEx, Tropical Shipping, Seaboard Marine and Scotiabank. He has also worked closely with US Government agencies including the Departments of State, Commerce and Energy and with governmental and multilateral agencies such as the Inter-American development Bank, the Organization of American States, the World Bank, the United Nations Development Program, CARICOM and the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States.

Anton has served as Chief of Party for a successful public/private sector program to protect over US $1billion in trade with Haiti and prior to that initiative, he directed regional security programs for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and co-directed programs on free trade in Central America. He has developed and delivered training modules on border security to regional stakeholders on behalf of entities such as the Organization of American States and has supported initiatives on UN1540 and the proliferation of small arms traffic in the Caribbean.

Before joining CCAA in Washington in 1999, Anton was a consultant for business clients with interests in the Caribbean and from 1995-1997 he was based in New York as a senior manager of business development for St. Lucia. He also served from 1990-1995 with Eastern Caribbean Investment Promotion Service (ECIPS), a business development organization where he developed and managed global marketing and investment campaigns for governments and private sector clients in the Caribbean.

Anton is a member of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, the Latin America & Caribbean Council on Renewable energy (LAC-CORE), the Port management Association of the Caribbean (PMAC) and the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum. He has lectured on the Caribbean at the Brookings Institution's Washington University in St. Louis' program, has been a guest lecturer at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University and is a frequent contributor to the Inter-American Dialogue’s Latin American adviser publication.

He possesses a Bachelor’s degree from The Catholic University of America and a Masters Degree from the American University.
