Anton Levy

Managing Director, General Atlantic

Anton Levy debuts on the Midas List this year following his lead role in General Atlantic's investment in Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba. In 2009, he convinced Alibaba CEO Jack Ma to let the firm invest $75 million. In 2014, Alibaba went public on the New York Stock Exchange with one of the largest initial public offerings ever at $90 a share, delivering an 18x return for Levy at $1.3 billion. This was one of General Atlantic's most successful deals in its 35-year history. He's invested in a number of other fast-growing e-commerce startups including Acumen Brands, Gilt Groupe and Sweden's Klarna. He also led General Atlantic's investment in Facebook. Joining General Atlantic in 1998, Levy heads the New York firm's global internet and technology investments. Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Levy is working on re-energizing his tennis career and trying out chess as a new hobby.
