April Underwood

Founding Partner and Investor at #ANGELS; Former Chief Product Officer at Slack and Director of Product at Twitter

April Underwood is head of Platform at Slack, the messaging app for teams, where she drives key growth initiatives and oversees platform products, partnerships, API integrations and developer relations.

Previously, April was the former director of product at Twitter and left the company to start #Angels, an angel-round investment group consisting entirely of former and current female Twitter execs. The group arrived at a crucial time in Silicon Valley, when Twitter’s own workforce is merely 30% female and the venerable VC firm Kleiner Perkins has been embroiled in a sex-discrimination lawsuit.

April holds an MBA from University of California at Berkeley (Haas) and a BBA in Management Information Systems from University of Texas at Austin.

Slack’s Head of Platform Promises It Won’t Burn Developers

April Underwood, Slack’s new head of platform, has high hopes for the service. The workplace-chatting app, if internal Re/code activity is any indication, is a great place to share GIFs about how happy we are it’s Friday...

Slack’s growth is insane, with daily user count up 3.5X in a year

Plenty of startups have tried and failed to make enterprise software sexy, but Slack made it viral. Its growth rate is unheard of. Both Slack’s daily user count and its paid seat count are up 3.5X in just a year. Tons of people have still never heard of it, but with this momentum, they probably will soon (it’s workplace chat).
