Chief Technology Officer, City of Washington, D.C.

Washington D.C.’s Chief Technology Officer, Archana Vemulapalli, oversees the district’s central technology agency comprising of over 670 staff delivering services to 33,000 employees and district residents. This includes a state-of-the-art municipal broadband network with a 100-gig core, connecting 650 government buildings, serving government customers, the non-profit community and delivering free wi-fi in the city.

Vemulapalli has established D.C. as a global leader in Smart City innovation, worked to improve efficiency and productivity of the District 40,000+ workforce, and champions progressive programs to ensure all residents have equitable access to city services. She co-chairs the Council of Global City CIOs.

She was the recipient of the Washingtonian Tech Titan Award (2017), StateScoop’s Golden Executive of the Year Award (2017), StateScoop’s Top Women in Tech Award (2017), D.C. Top 50 Women in Tech Award (2017), StateScoop’s 50 Up and Comer Award (2016) and Washington Business Journal’s Women Who Mean Business (2015) award.

Vemulapalli has a master’s degree in Leadership from Georgetown University and a master’s degree in Telecommunications & Network Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
