A Nobel laureate and venture capital advisor, Dr. Arno A. Penzias is uniquely qualified to speak on the business potential of emerging technologies. He served as vice president and chief scientist with AT&T Bell Laboratories/Lucent Technologies, and was instrumental in building the firm’s reputation for scientific excellence and managed the most outstanding group of industrial scientists and engineers ever assembled. He currently is a venture partner at New Enterprise Associates (NEA), the country’s largest early-stage venture capital firm, for whom he seeks out promising technology companies and, as an advisor and board member, helps to catalyze their development. He is a passionate and articulate speaker with a practical orientation who excels at identifying and addressing an audience’s particular interests.

 Through his presentations, Dr. Penzias helps companies make more informed choices about technology investments and development. His timely predictions and in-depth analysis help managers and investors deal with the incredible rate at which knowledge becomes stale and counterproductive. His role at NEA gives him an inside look at the applications that are likely to spring from merging and emerging technologies. His background as a scientist/inventor, r&d manager, and corporate executive gives him a unique perspective on how emerging technologies are likely to affect you and your customers in the future.

Dr. Penzias has conducted research in radio communication and related areas, and helped to pioneer a number of technology advances in his role as an r&d leader. His work in radio astronomy, especially his part in discovering evidence supporting the Big Bang theory of the origin of the universe, earned him the 1978 Nobel Prize for Physics.

Dr. Penzias has written two books on information technology, especially its impact on business and society and the human side of coping with technology, as well as numerous technical articles and patents. In addition to his many awards for science, r&d management, and public service, he has been elected to membership in both the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.
