Arnold Schwarzenegger

World-Champion Bodybuilder, Hollywood Actor, Former Governor of California

Arnold Schwarzenegger is a globally recognized figure; a stalwart of public life, sports, and entertainment. An immigrant with minimal resources, Schwarzenegger leveraged his vision, determination, and charisma to craft a narrative of inspiration and embody the American dream. He shares four principles that have guided his success: having and trusting a vision; breaking the rules; embracing the possibility of failure; and committing to hard work, eschewing shortcuts.

In his speeches, Schwarzenegger draws from his political experiences and his efforts to combat climate change, advocating for openness to change and the adoption of bold, innovative solutions. His tenure as governor solidified California’s leadership in renewable energy and technological advancement. He highlights the need to broaden the energy debate beyond carbon emission reduction, stressing the importance of energy security, pollution reduction, and the advancement of green jobs and technology.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is renowned for his diverse accomplishments: a world-champion bodybuilder, a Hollywood action star, a successful businessman, an environmentalist, a philanthropist, a best-selling author, and the 38th Governor of California. Born in Thal, Austria in 1947, Schwarzenegger became the youngest Mr. Universe winner by age 20. He transformed bodybuilding into a global sport and after moving to the U.S. in 1968, he won seven Mr. Olympia titles. Pursuing acting, he starred in major films like "Conan the Barbarian" and "Terminator," which have grossed over $3 billion worldwide. Schwarzenegger’s early acting efforts were recognized with a Golden Globe® for "New Male Star of the Year" for his role in "Stay Hungry."

As Governor from 2003 to 2011, Schwarzenegger implemented significant policies such as the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 and reformed California's workers' compensation system, reducing costs by over 35%. He also made substantial investments in improving the state’s infrastructure, established the Hydrogen Highway, and the Million Solar Roofs Plan to promote a greener environment.

Post-governorship, Schwarzenegger co-founded the R20 Regions of Climate Action, a global non-profit dedicated to promoting low-carbon initiatives. He also champions various philanthropic causes through the USC Schwarzenegger Institute and The Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative, focusing on education, environmentalism, and public health. His contributions to global policy have been acknowledged by the United Nations Correspondents Association, and his literary works include the #1 New York Times bestsellers "Be Useful: Seven Tools for Life" and "Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story."

Schwarzenegger continues his commitment to public service globally, serving as chairman of the After School All-Stars program and as a coach for the Special Olympics. His recent endeavors in entertainment include executive producing and starring in environmental and action-themed productions, such as the Netflix series "FUBAR" and the documentary "ARNOLD," which chronicles his multifaceted career.
