Asil Abulil
Intel ISEF Winners
Science award winners Nour Al-Arda, Asil Abulil, and Asil Shaar are 9th graders residing in the Askar refugee camp, located on the outskirts of the West Bank city of Nablus. As students at the camp’s United Nations Relief and Works Agency School, the girls made history by winning a top spot at Intel’s International Science and Engineering Fair in Silicon Valley for a revolutionary walking cane for the blind. The girls and their teacher, Jameela Khaled, were presented with a special award in applied engineering for stick-tech — a walking stick designed to communicate changes in terrain to the user. The genius of the girls invention has earned them international recognition and the opportunity to demonstrate their work along with 1,500 other young scientists at the Intel competition in San Jose, California.
