Austin Carty

Youth Speaker & Author of High Points and Lows

Austin Carty is an author, speaker, television personality, and public high school English teacher. A castmember on CBS's Survivor, Carty is also a blogger for The Huffington Post and Sojourner’s God’s Politics Blog. His acclaimed memoir High Points and Lows: Life, Faith, and Figuring It All Out (Penguin) has drawn praise from leading religion writers such as Tony Campolo, Shane Claiborne, and Cathleen Falsani.

An engaging and inspiring speaker, Carty addresses churches, college/universities, high schools, non-profits, and businesses across the country. Exploring themes of theology, philosophy, sociology, and pop culture while addressing wide-ranging issues such as faith, grace, social justice, and education, Carty's style is to strip bare his own life and faith, revealing honest accounts of what he has learned throughout his own journey.

Carty, who has a passion for young adults, teaches high school English at Northern Guilford high school in Greensboro, NC, and he believes this daily exposure to teenagers from all walks of life gives him a keen insight into the motivations, fears, desires, and insecurities of today's American youth.

A Summa Cum Laude graduate of High Point University with a B.A. in English literature, Carty and his wife, April, live with their dog, Gator, in High Point, North Carolina.
