Austin McChord

Founder of Datto

Austin is the chief innovator and driving force behind Datto. When Austin founded Datto in 2007 his goal was to create the best backup and disaster recovery (BDR) and business continuity (BC) solution available; he succeeded. Concurrently, he has led Datto to incredible growth.

Datto provides emergency back-up and data protection services to large firms who trust it to get them back online - fast. When Hurricane Sandy took down a New York City-area high-frequency trading firm, Datto had them back online in a matter of minutes and it claims it can restore IT-services in a matter of seconds now. That speed and reliability has translated into spectacular growth: the seven-year old firm is profitable, nudging $100 million in sales. Last year, McChord took his first outside funding, $25 million from GeneralCatalyst, looking to "play for real."

Datto has made the coveted Inc. 500 for three consecutive years, in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The company has also received numerous industry awards, for company growth, product excellence and technical support.

More than the accolades, Austin is proud to have created a unique culture at Datto; to always look ahead, exceed expectations, and keep Datto Partners at the forefront of everything we do.

Austin is major shareholder at Datto. He has a degree in Bioinformatics from Rochester Institute of Technology, and holds several patents. In 2014 he was named a Finalist for Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, as well as named a CRN Top 25 Innovator and a CRN Top 50 Midmarket IT Vendor Executive. Austin sits on the Board of the Connecticut Technology Council.
