Austin Scarlett

Fashion Designer, Former Project Runway Contestant

Austin Scarlett is a New York designer whose work spans the realms of fashion, theatre and pop culture.

Recognized for his personally glamorous style almost as much as the breathtaking couture fashions he creates, the world of Austin Scarlett is an enchanted combination of grace and romance. Scarletts designs have been described as magic (The New York Times), worthy of a goddess (Elle), technically innovative and esthetically sublime (Madame Figaro) and he a bright young thing (Artforum).

Born in Cottage Grove, Oregon, Austin has been designing since he was a child.

Following his passion, Scarlett moved to New York as a teenager to pursue his education in fashion design, studying at the Art Students League of New York and The Fashion Institute of Technology. After graduating, he continued to hone his talents in dressmaking as an apprentice fashion archivist at the Museum at FIT, and a theatrical costume design assistant and pattern maker.

Austin first gained international recognition for his designs on the original season of Project Runway, winning the programs first challenge ever with his famed corn husk dress. He went on to become one of the youngest designers in history to be named Creative Director of a couture wedding and eveningwear collection in 2006, creating six seasons of gowns for the design house.

As a multimedia artist, Austins work with theatre and television provides another outlet for his abundant creativity, and a platform to share his philosophy of beauty with the world. In 2010 he developed, hosted and designed in his critically acclaimed television program, On the Road with Austin and Santino. Traveling across the country, creating original fashions for once-in-a-lifetime occasions, Austin celebrated his love of women everywhere. Scarlett Starlet again captivated the hearts and minds of millions with his inimitable style on Project Runway All-Stars in 2012.

Austins love of theatrical performance led him to costume design with artists such as Shen Wei at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, David Parsons Dance as seen on PBS, The Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, Greenwich Music Festival, and upcoming work with the Fort Worth Opera scheduled for 2014. A fixture of New Yorks artistic and social scene, he is often seen at cultural events in the City with a young friend dressed in an Austin Scarlett creation at his side.

This fall, Austin launches his first complete gown collection under his own label, debuting his signature line at Neiman Marcus Flagship in Dallas. His collection will walk the runway in October at his inaugural fashion show at New Yorks historic Park Avenue Armory. Scarlett exclaims: A wedding dress is the expression of a womans unique beauty at her most treasured moment. I am overjoyed at last to be able to fulfill the dreams of all my beautiful brides!
