Nominee for Director of National Intelligence in the Biden Administration

Avril Haines was Obama's principal deputy national security adviser and deputy director of the CIA. She worked for Biden when he was chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. In 2020, President-elect Joe Biden selected Avril Haines as his director of national intelligence. If confirmed, Haines will be the first woman to head national intelligence, leading the intelligence community across 17 agencies and organizations, and advising the president on national security issues.

Previously, Haines was a senior research scholar at Columbia University and a senior fellow at Johns Hopkins University. She also serves on several boards and advisory groups, including the National Commission on Military, the Nuclear Threat Initiative and Refugees International.
