South African Actor; Known for MTV Shuga; UN Refugee Agency Ambassador

Ayanda Makayi is a South African actor best known for his starring role as Sol, a troubled young man who prowls the streets of the Zenzele in his taxi, in the fifth and seventh season of the television drama series MTV Shuga. Ayanda has also starred in the recent Mzansi Magic music-based drama series, Ingoma, as smitten boyfriend Ezekiel.

Born and raised in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, Ayanda matriculated from Queen’s College in 2010 before moving to Johannesburg, where he obtained a BA Honours in Live Performance from AFDA. He first appeared on television in the SABC1 drama series Mfolozi Street and he soon landed a string of roles on shows such as Roer Jou Voete, High Rollers and Ashes to Ashes.

In 2016 he landed his first lead role in MTV Shuga, which was quickly followed by his second starring role when he replaced Given Stuurman in the role of Boysie on the second season of the Mzansi Magic supernatural drama series Igazi. He can be seen in a variety of television commercials and feature films both local and international, including Vodacom, Nyaope Boys, Ben9, That Golden Moment, The Journey is the Destination, Bush Pilot, Against the Wild 2: Survive the Serengeti and Skorokoro.

Ayanda is one of the UNHCR ambassadors amongst Nomzamo Mbatha, Anatii, Leanne Mannas and Tressor to mention a few, where they aim to redefine the narrative of our fellow refugee brother and sisters across Africa.
