Byrne created two-factor authentication software that replaces usernames and passwords. Instead of typing, you simply hold your phone up to a computer, allowing it to scan a moving series of lines that show up on both screens. Close to 120,000 websites now use Clef, including Bitcoin exchanges Bitfinex and Paxful. Brought up in Huntsville, Alabama, Byrne went to Pomona College where he started the company with two of his college buddies after seeing a major password breach at LinkedIn.
