Barbara Bowers, MD    

Medical Oncologist Specialized in the Diagnosis & Treatment of Breast Cancer & Those at High Risk For Developing Breast Cancer

A native of Mora, Minnesota, Dr. Bowers attended medical school at the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1976. She subsequently specialized in medical oncology at Masonic Cancer Hospital at the University of Minnesota, where she earned a sub-specialty in breast cancer. Dr. Bowers is the former Medical Director of Fairview Southdale Medical Oncology Clinic.

Dr. Bowers has worked to create a coordinated program with breast radiography, breast surgeons, plastic surgeons and oncologists, working together to provide seamless care for all women with abnormal mammograms. The Breast Center has opened a comprehensive High Risk Clinic including genetic counseling, a new MRI with state of the art software for breast imaging, on-site lymphedema therapy, and an on-site psychologist.

As a well-known medical oncologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer and those at high risk for developing breast cancer, Dr. Bowers is frequently sought as a public lecturer and has presented at professional seminars such as the Breast Cancer Awareness Association Living with Breast Cancer conference. She was honored by her peers as a Top Doctor for Women in Minnesota Monthly magazine for 2013 and 2014, and she was recognized as a 2013 Top Doctor in the Minneapolis/St Paul Magazine.

Dr. Bowers is active in multiple clinical trials for treatment and prevention of breast cancer. She believes it is important to pursue better treatments for breast cancer, but the best of all scenarios would be to prevent women from developing breast cancer in the first place.
