Becky Wright and Kelsey MacDermaid
YouTubers Known as "The Sorry Girls"
Becky Wright and Kelsey MacDermaid started their creative journey together in 2010 when they met in University and dubbed themselves as The Sorry Girls for their new YouTube channel. They called themselves The Sorry Girls because they knew that a play on the stereotype that Canadian’s say sorry way too often would always be true of themselves and Canada. Kelsey and Becky started their YouTube channel to teach young women just like themselves how to make a cute and unique Halloween costumes on a budget. They didn’t know what their channel would be or where it would go when they started but it has turned into a creative, inspiring, and money saving lifestyle that they are thrilled to be apart of every day. The Sorry Girls look at everything from home décor and fashion to Halloween and Christmas and put their heads together to figure out how to DIY (do it yourself) this season’s trends using materials that are easy to access and instructions that are easy to follow. Since starting their YouTube channel together their following on YouTube has grown to over half a million subscribers and they have inspired many to pick up a hammer, get some paint on their hands and #doitforthediy.
Becky Wright is one half of the wildly successful creative brand The Sorry Girls. From a young age it was clear Becky was destined to find her place in the arts as she was always creating, building, and designing her way through life. She achieved a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Film and Media Production, spawning the creation of The Sorry Girls YouTube channel. Her greater love of style and ingenuity helped bring the brand from online video to creative powerhouse earning her the true title of entrepreneur. Her goal is to continually inspire passion and confidence in young women around the world and to be a role model in empowerment, the core message behind “do it yourself”.
Meet Kelsey MacDermaid, part creative, part producer, and one half of the DIY duo known as The Sorry Girls. Kelsey always had a love for film, ever since grade 7 when her teacher allowed her to make a video instead of presenting a monologue to the class. Graduating from Mayfield Secondary School in 2010 she then headed off to Humber College to pursue a B.A.A. in Film and Media Production. Upon graduating Humber College she realized her passion and strength lies in producing content. After working for one year as a Production Coordinator in the Commercial Production industry in Toronto, Canada, she decided to put her full energy into producing and creating content for her first true love, The Sorry Girls. Now she spends her days as a Producer, Editor, Business Developer, and Trash-taker-outer for everything The Sorry Girls related whether it’s on YouTube, TheSorryGirls.com, or other exciting business adventures.
