Ben Platt
Tony Award-Winning Actor, Singer & Songwriter; Best Known for "Pitch Perfect" & Broadway Musicals "Dear Evan Hansen" & "The Book of Mormon"
Ben Platt is an award-winning actor, singer and songwriter, best known for his groundbreaking performances on stage and screen. Born in Los Angeles, California, Platt grew up immersed in the arts and quickly demonstrated his extraordinary talent. He rose to national prominence with his role as Elder Cunningham in the hit Broadway musical "The Book of Mormon," but it was his portrayal of the title character in "Dear Evan Hansen" that cemented his status as a Broadway star. For his emotionally powerful performance, Platt won the 2017 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical, along with a Grammy Award for the cast recording. He reprised the role in the 2021 film adaptation of the musical.
In addition to his stage success, Platt has built a remarkable career in film and television. He starred in, among others, "Pitch Perfect" and its sequel, "The People We Hate at the Wedding" and "Theater Camp," which he co-wrote. He later took on the lead role in Netflix’s "The Politician," earning critical praise for his acting and vocal performances. His ability to convey raw emotion through song has become one of his trademarks, leading to the release of his debut solo album Sing to Me Instead in 2019, which reached the top of the Billboard charts, and Reverie two years later. In 2023, Platt released his latest album, Honeymind, which was praised for its vulnerability and maturity, reflecting Platt’s evolution as both a singer and songwriter.
To celebrate the release of Honeymind, Platt performed "Ben Platt: Live at the Palace," a special concert at the historic Palace Theatre in New York City. It was his first time back on stage since he starred in the revival of the 2022 New York City Center Gala production of "Parade," which transferred to Broadway in 2023 and earned him another Tony nomination and his third Grammy nomination.
Beyond music and acting, Platt remains an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and mental health awareness, using his platform to speak out on issues close to his heart. Driven by a personal connection through his sister-in-law, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS), he is also involved in the MS in Harmony campaign, which emphasizes the therapeutic benefits of music for those living with the disease.
