Bert Mason  

director of the Center for Agricultural Business and professor of Agricultural Economics at California State University

Bert Mason was appointed to the Board by Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr., in January 2012. Previously, Governor Gray Davis appointed Dr. Mason to serve on the Agricultural Labor Relations Board from 1999 to 2002. Dr. Mason is a professor emeritus at the California State University, Fresno, where he taught from 1983 to 2010. Dr. Mason’s research and teaching focused largely on agricultural labor matters, including farm labor market analysis, immigration issues, personnel management and agricultural safety. He has published extensively and spoken frequently on these and other issues related to the business of agriculture.

Dr. Mason received his doctorate in agricultural economics from the University of California, Davis in 1975 and a B.A. in honors economics from Stanford University in 1971. Prior to joining the CSUF faculty in 1983, he held positions with Cornell University, the Solar Energy Research Institute, and was a self-employed consultant with Mason Associates. He is a native of the San Joaquin Valley (Lindsay), where his family was involved in citrus and olive farming..
