Beto Lopez is a Global Lead of IDEO’s Systems Design discipline.

A Senior Product Designer based in Palo Alto, Beto is helping organizations tackle messy challenges characterized by uncertainty and multiple stakeholders through IDEO’s diverse industry experience.

As a complement to design thinking, Beto applies a systems thinking approach to help frame, change and sometimes disrupt how value propositions are delivered to people. For the same reason IDEO goes out into the world to build first hand empathy with people, Beto is developing new ways to prototype systems solutions so that stakeholders can experience what might be possible. This immersive environment enables both sponsors and stakeholders to actively explore, evolve and refine solutions that deliver impact in the right context.

Beto’s expertise is continuously nurtured and advanced by IDEO’s global work in Medical Products, Food & Beverage, Packaged Goods, Consumer Electronics, Automotive, Furniture and Sporting Goods. His passions include traditional product design, business and innovation strategy, and futures projects that assess emerging trends.

Beto joined IDEO in 2004 with degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and experience in automotive R&D, architectural engineering, and sustainable development research. He regularly speaks on the topics of design, systems thinking, and sustainable development, and is frequently surprised and delighted by his 8-yr-old son, a nationally-ranked BMX racer.
